.: Youth Director Update :.

{update from July 8th 2009}

Dear Solid Rock Brothers and Sisters,

Before updating you on our week I would like to say thank you for all of your prayers and support for Ryan, the youth and myself this week! God is at work in a powerful way, and if the hearts of the youth are soft and their ears are open He has a ton of opportunity to make lasting changes in their lives this week.

The Bus Trip: The trip was long (18 hours about) and seemed longer when trying to sleep without a place for your legs and much option to recline. But with several stops we made it to Estes Park on Monday at about 11AM (MST). This gave us a few hours to see the sights in downtown Estes Park, including lots of shops, a mountain fed river with a walkway running by it and a great first view of the mountains. However, the view was far less impressive then what we could see once we got off the bus at the YMCA.

Monday/Registration: Registration went smooth… well at first it did. Once all of the youth and Ryan were given their information and headed out to their assigned rooms I had to find out where I was supposed to be. In the end I found I wasn’t with our guys, and wasn’t even assigned to a room that existed. Furthermore, I wasn’t assigned to any youth at all, which in turn was a blessing. So, after going up and down the side of the mountain on foot here at YMCA almost four times to try to resolve my issues I ended up logging as an “adult” without any students. Though this is not what I had in mind, it has been a blessing. Ryan and I are spending as much time possible with the youth, other than at night. This in turn gives us both full nights rests and enough energy to make it through the day in good spirits with this thin mountain air (harder for me then Ryan I think). So although being with the Youth would have been in our eyes the best option, God has used this situation to work out for His purpose too.

The Monday night session was led by Pastor Wade Mobley and was title “Life’s Most Important Question.” It was a message that brought the reality of our need of faith in Christ to the youth in a real and convicting way. Many went up to accept salvation (none from Solid Rock) and many had their salvation affirmed (many from Solid Rock).

Tuesday: The reality of a non-stop full schedule is starting to sink in as we go from event to event to event then to free time, which is completely filled with many optional events too. The youth enjoy Bible studies every morning at about 9 (MST). The Junior High students with Pastor Jim Johnson from Camarillo, California and the Senior High students with Pastor Todd Erickson from Roseau, MN. Both Pastor’s are leading the youth through Colossians as they teach the scriptures and how to be firmly planted in them. They then get many choices for Small Group Electives which dig deeper into subjects such as “Contemporary Apologetics,” “Fact, Fiction, & Faith,” “Revelation: The Joy of Seeing Jesus,” and “Why Does God Feel So Far Away” just to mention a few our group has attended.

Ryan took a small number of our guys up the mountain while I joined most of the others and watched “Fireproof.” I found out I wasn’t the only one that would cry while watching that movie … you have to watch it to understand.

The evening session was the most powerful message the youth have heard yet as Eric and Leslie Ludy shared a message of giving our lives to God instead of living on the edge of the cliff and seeing how far we could get to the edge without falling off. Their message was focused on purity, but it applied to general holiness and living for God too.

Wednesday: Today has been much of the same of the first part shared with yesterday, we will be eating dinner in about an hour and I am sitting waiting for the youth to show up to write to their sponsor’s now. After Dinner we will hear a message from Tom Brock, which if you know him is sure to be powerful.

Please pray for the youth in these area’s:

1. That their focus would be on God while here, not distractions.

2. That they would have soft hearts and open ears.

3. For their health. The air is thin and it can get really hot. Dehydration can be a concern up here closer to the sun.

    Real men do cry when watching “Fireproof” as God is talking to His guys. I did.
